HOW TO

BECOME A VP

How to Become a VP?

No one can promise to make you a Vice President. But this book contains the logic and strategy of how I did it. Even though, perhaps, all large corporations can be somewhat different. some logic in strategy will always stay the same. So even if your situation might be different from the world I knew, you might find some of the strategy logic inside this book helpful to you. It might even be helpful as a personal guide.

In my case I did not even have a specific goal to become a Vice President. I just wanted to do well, and of course advancement was always nice and appreciated. And then one day I found that I had made Vice President. An odd feeling.

But is even becoming a Vice President all there is to life? I found that what I learned during  my career, was more important perhaps than the career itself. When one learns how to do their thinking, made decisions, and evaluate things, it seems to stay with you your entire life... even after you retire. No longer are you controlled, perhaps, by what you hear on your television set or by people around you. You might be always nice to people. That is a good thing. And you might take in all information people give to you. But then at some point when you sort it out, you might just find that you reach conclusions few others do.

During my career, back when Motorola was a huge thriving company with I heard some 150,000 world wide employees, I went there from perhaps being the lowest paid engineer on staff to becoming a Vice President. And that was not an honorary title only, but a Vice President in charge of Manufacturing or Engineering of both for a large division with perhaps yearly a billion US dollars in sales. How did I do that? Well, I realized I was not born with this knowledge. I learned it from many people along the way, and tried to decide what information I was being told made sense and what information did not make sense. And I learned from some people.. who I thought were great in business. And so what is the point of this book? My goal is simply to pass on business information to others as best as I could, in order to help others who may come after me. Yes, times change, and some may have to modify the strategies here as the world continues to change. But logic does not change. And you might just find this book a good help at a reasonable price.
