File Extension Change Example

Not all file change software will allow you to change extension names at all - much less in bulk.  But shouldn't that be your decision?  In the below example we do a simple preference change in bulk of many web pages from ".html" to ".htm".  Perhaps we would do this if we knew there was an inconsistency and that hyperlinks to these specific pages had been using ".htm" and so we need to make it all consistent somehow.

Extension Change Example

Of course, in the example above the filemod program will change the file name extensions and not the hyperlinks inside of the web pages.  So in this example we are assuming that changing the ".html" endings to ".htm" is a good idea and is also our preference.  If so, it can be easy.  To do it, simply place all of the files with extensions to be changed (to the same extension name) in the same folder.  Also ensure that that folder selected has no sub-folders.  Then select the "extension" option in filemod, and ensure that you change the extension name below that in the program to the extension name to change to.  Then the extension name in the directory can be changed in bulk by the program.  In this ".html" example, the modified result - all ".htm" - is shown on the right.

Change Just One File Extension Name?

You can change just one extension name by selecting the "only one" option in filemod.  In this case, just select the file of your choice on the left screen of the program.
