Changing File Attributes - in bulk
Changing file attributes in bulk - meaning many files at one time - is just
one of the many features of the rpsoft 2000 filemod program.
Applications:
A great application of this bulk attribute changer is to fix file attributes
after data is stored on CD ROM .. or nowadays even a DVD Rom. The data is
stored fine on these disks. However, a problem occurs if one needs to
re-load this data into a computer. If the CD ROM or DVD cannot read and
write, the files will have been marked "read-only" in their attributes while
being stored. And this should be the case, since the files will be
"read-only" on the CD or DVD and cannot be written over. This can cause
problems as the files are again used and we wish to update these files and save
the changes to our hard drives. We are likely to see a complaint from the
computer that we are trying to change a "read only" file.
How to Fix
Changing file attributes to read and write one at a time would be tedious.
Filemod software can change this in bulk. Simply put all the files that
you are reading to your computer in their own separate directory as you read
them from the CD ROM drive or DVD drive. By this we mean to keep the files
together, at least for the time being. Then adjust filemod's action under
"File Attributes" to either "elim most readonly" - which does not change system
files to read and write, or the more complete "read all" function which will
make all files, including system files, read and write. Then ensure that filemod
is pointed at the correct "directory(s) to modify" and click "start".
The filemod program can modify many nested directories that may include
thousands of files very quickly.
